A teacher from Manchester is set to move to Nepal next week to begin a year-long educational and environmental project, run by a charity that works to eradicate poverty around the world.
Ben Daly, 32, from Hucknall, will head to the capital Kathmandu, on June 11, where he will carry out a number of activities on a project run by Our Sansar.
Ben said: "I've done a lot of travelling in the past but Nepal was somewhere I had always wanted to visit.
"I'll be over there for a year working on different activities and with a number of groups in the country.
"The main project I'll be involved in will be teaching English in schools and with street children. It's vital to provide education to children, and give them them the best possible start in life. Giving them opportunities to learn and develop will help them reach their potential."
But Ben, who used to work as an English teacher in Dubai, said the Our Sansar project would allow him to get involved in work away from teaching.
He said: "I'll be helping local communities with environmental and energy projects. My family has always been supportive of the Green Party in the UK, and I'm keen to get involved in making more people around the
world aware of green issues.
"It's important, especially for rural communities such as those in Nepal, that they know how to best use the natural materials available to them."
And he urged more people to get involved in the work that Our Sansar does to provide education and eradicate poverty.
He stated: "I've been back in the UK for a while, and was looking for a new challenge. So I started looking around and found Our Sansar online.
"It's a charity with a lot of ambition and room for growth in the future, but needs people to get involved in its projects.
"Although there is the financial crisis, and a lot of people are tightening their belts, helping Our Sansar would be a wonderful experience, even if people went away for just a few weeks."
Our Sansar, which was founded in 2009, works to eradicate poverty around the world. It sends international volunteers to schools and orphanages in developing countries, and provides financial support toward improving local infrastructure, and raising environmental awareness.
