BELINDA BEST – Visiting Volunteer and Fundraiser

I am from Guildford, UK, and currently live in south London.

I have been involved with Our Sansar for a few years now. It all started with a London to Brighton bike ride raising funds for the charity. Since then I have visited Nepal twice. I am currently helping out with social media where I can and planning to visit again soon.

I have stayed at the transit home in Dhading which was set up after the earthquakes in 2015 and visited the home in Birgunj.

In Dhading there was walls and beds to be painted and decorated, kitchen insulation to be fitted, games to be played, bubbles, hoops, puppets and attempts at teaching English and math. As well as art, yoga and hugs! All of this was so rewarding but also absolutely exhausting with sometimes a child hanging off every limb!

One of my proudest achievements for Our Sansar is organising a fundraising music event in London. Bringing together musical friends at home to create a great line up, raise awareness and funds.

But my most meaningful achievements being, spending time at the homes with the children and staff. Learning from each other and showing them they are not alone.

Supporting the Staff at the homes is also vital as they are not just cooks, teachers and play mates. They become like parents and social workers, it was an honour to feel so much part of the Our Sansar family whenever I’ve stayed.

One little girl Binu always has a big place in my heart, she is very fragile but also so strong! Such a pure and innocent soul, untouched by the world most of us live in today. I always listen closely for news of her progress.
