Our Sansar’s debut fundraising charity event will take place on March 31st in Shoreditch, East London. Thanks to the East Village Club the night will see music from some local London and Irish musicians as well as a DJ set until close. This smart, 2-year old venue is based on the New York club style and attracts many East Londoners to it’s bar, restaurant, lounge, club and fantastic sound system.
Taking place in the Lounge, Our Sansar’s Change for Change night is in aid of the children’s home which is currently in development and will be built shortly just outside Janakpur in Nepal.
The Village Development Committee in Sitapur has given an acre of land to Our Sansar who is working with several schools and locals on this project and is also in partnership with an NGO in Kathmandu who work with street children and education too. We are working with a UK charity of architects on the practical plans, who have extensive experience in disaster relief shelter and construction.
The home will work towards improving the health, education, safety and quality of life for local street children in the city of Janakpur. Janakpur is on the border with India and one of the disadvantages to this is the danger of the trafficking of young girls to work as prostitutes in India’s larger cities. This is an issue that is being combated extensively by many organisations in the area. Our Sansar will also be providing places for volunteers in the future to work with the children and locals and teach in the school and home.
Music on the night will begin with Belfast born folk singer, Brian Semple. Currently recording in Brighton, his song-writing influences are grounded in the sounds of PJ Harvey, Lou Reed and Bert Jansch. Mentac, the ex post-rocker will provide a renaissance of future-folk during his set followed by what has been described as a ‘dark-ride through a colourful landscape’ from Shriek of an Eagle with their baritone guitar and vocals. Headline act is the lively new wave pop 4-piece Swing Youth, championed by Iamacq. With a single out on the 29th of March called ‘Jennifer/Hey Keith’, this South/East London band are as confident as The Buzzcocks, as melodious and dark as The Cure’s early records and are most certainly a set worth dancing to. Dave Channel from Swing Youth will spin discs of modern indie and 60’s tunes until 1am.
100% of proceeds will go to the construction of the children’s home in Nepal.
