During the August Bank holiday, Our Sansar participated in the AEON Festival, describing itself as a “Shoestring Boutique Festival”. This is a family friendly festival that put together musicians, charities and other organizations for the fifth year. The event took place over three days at Shobrooke Park Estate, Crediton, set in the beautiful surroundings in mid Devon with access to an enormous camping under the trees. The festival had four stages (of which the main stage preceded by a grassy amphitheatre on the edge of the lake), a dance tent, bar drinks, workshops, food stalls, markets, big fire during the night and many other fantastic activities. The theme for 2010 was Global Safari and people were wearing fancy dresses. The line-up included notably Melosa, Evi Vine, Spiro, The Roots Union, Acoustic Ladyland, Doll & The Kicks, The Jawbone Band, Le Chat Noir, Lucy Ward, Polar Bear, Trouble & Mischief, Victoria Hume, Alison Brumfitt, Dizraeli, Jiggerypipery, Maybe Myrtle Tyrtle, Saffron Monkey, and many more.
During the festival, Our Sansar joined charities such as Bookcycle and Oxfam and got its own stall to organise its activities. While Kaina Hamed (Our Sansar Research Assistant) was spreading the word and trying to sell tickets for the car draw organised by the FSI (Foundation for Social Improvement), Dominika Baran and Patrycja Kruszczynska (Our Sansar Volunteers) organised workshops for children such as painting, drawing and rangoli crafts. The latter is one of the most popular arts forms in India and really drew the attention of the public. All activities were done by donations. Children could enjoy the workshops and play different games (paper planes, books…). Moreover Kev Gray, British singer-songwriter and formerly part of the band The Gravy Train, gave a successful concert on the behalf of Our Sansar and got a big round of applause from the public. We had a very good fun with the families and all the people during the three days.
All the funds raised will go towards the children’s home project in Chitwan, Nepal.
