Make you hair – and your heart – feel good!
In support of the International Day for Street Children, Shine, Brighton’s leading ethical hairdressers are hosting an open evening to raise funds and awareness for street children globally. Prices for all haircuts and some beauty treatments will be discounted by 50%!
All money raised during the evening will go towards helping Our Sansar to open a children’s home in Chitwan, Nepal. Brighton based charity, Our Sansar, is a dynamic and responsive international development NGO providing education, healthcare and shelter to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable children in Nepal. The children’s home will transform the lives of local street kids, providing emotional support, food, shelter, education and training. It will also help to protect these vulnerable children from dangers such as violence, sexual abuse, drug addiction, prostitution and child labour.
The evening will also include wine tasting and free Aveda products. Plus you’ll get 2 stamps on your Shine loyalty card – which means you start to qualify pretty quickly for all kinds of other goodies!
The event is part of the Louder Together Campaign for the second biggest International Day for Street Children yet, taking place on 12 April 2012. This is organised by the Consortium for Street Children, an alliance of organisations working for this cause. The aim is to join forces so that the plight of street children is more likely to be heard. Not only heard by Governments and ordinary people but also by street children themselves, to let them know that they are not forgotten. There are 60 members of the alliance, active in 130 countries.
Street children are one of the most unheard and unsupported groups of children, who regularly slip through the gaps of policy and humanitarian action. NGOs working on the ground are increasingly seeing girls giving birth whilst on the street, giving rise to an alarming number of 2nd generation’ street children, who have never known a different kind of life. Although impossible to say for sure, it is estimated that there are over 100 million children living on urban streets worldwide, with numbers rising.
All appointments must be booked in advance at Shine, 111 Gloucester Rd, North Laines, Brighton, or by phone on 01273 604404.
