We are finally able to announce the launch of the new project with Pipal Tree UK!
This is a very exciting venture for all of us: we are hoping it will lead to more and more opportunities as we are definitely stronger together.
The Children’s Protection and Women Empowerment Programme was launched last week with the opening of a safe shelter for girls who have been victims of domestic violence, rape, trafficking. Next stage will be opening a shelter for boys who have been abandoned, homeless, involved in child labour and any other emergency cases.
As you may recall the project is based in Janakpur in Province 2, in the south of Nepal.
Why do we focus our attention in Southern Nepal? The simple answer and yet the most striking is that there is a huge need for help and nobody else wants to work there. Province 2 is the smallest but most populous province in Nepal, with more than 10,000 cases a year of violence against girls and women, the highest number of missing children in the whole country, approximately 400 kids living on the streets, and fifty percent of the young population out of school.
Once the shelters are fully operational, we want to start a few initiatives to support the whole community. We will be focusing on skills training and employment opportunities for women from lower castes, who do not have access to any assistance. We will be opening environmentally friendly social enterprises, also providing veterinary training, and we will also identify other opportunities that will provide sustainable income to the communities.
If you would like to contribute to our work, in whatever form you can, which could be time or money, of course is more than welcome. Click on the link below to donate or on Take Action to see how you can get involved, or simply get in touch!
